Homage to our predecessors
This museum is located in the Winery, the oldest and most emblematic building of this cooperative, whose first undertaking dates back to 1962.
This building is the oldest and most emblematic of this cooperative, whose first undertaking dates back to 1962. It was built in 1963 as a winery to facilitate the unloading and milling of the grapes until the early 70's. It is circular, with a diameter of almost 35m built from concrete, with walls 50cm thick and a curved tile conical roof. It has gone through several stages of use, standing out the presses for the storage of pomace in the early 90s.
With the reconstruction carried out in 1995, with the help of the council of Tomelloso, by means of a collaboration agreement with the purpose of preserving a part of the industrial vinicultural architecture of the city, we arrive at its current state. It is structured in two storeys, the ground floor and basement. The ground floor, in its outer ring, houses a permanent display of farming implements and utensils, while the central part is used as an auditorium for meetings and cultural events such as concerts, radio programmes, meetings with associates, classes, etc. The basement is devoted to the aging of special wines.
Today it depicts the way of life of our predecessors, through a collection of photographs of already vanished trades and jobs, as well as tools, implements, carts, wagons and life-size reproductions of the already legendary mules that helped the men of Tomelloso in their hard work in the field, recreating both the work in the vineyards of the "era" with its beaters, threshers, winnowing forks, ... and in the pit or in the cellar, hosting old wine decanting pumps, manual as well as motorised,... and even an apparatus for the distillation of alcohol.
